bcb723 Extremely ambitious album w/ a sinister gloomy death doom feel. The coolest part is how integrated the drumming (from Cessation's Nathan Gonzalez) is fused into the core of the songwriting as each colossal track beats you down. Yet another strong release from Transylvanian Recordings, probably one of the label's best of the year. But seriously dig into the main drum riff of opening track "Narcosis" & see what I'm talking about.

PS: So heavy to sequence that shorter acoustic song as Track 3. Favorite track: Narcosis.

Dave Aftandilian Perfect raw, screaming, sorrowing death/doom soundtrack for the end times we and Gaia are suffering through. Listening to this album I can feel the ashes from the burning forests coating the back of my throat. An excruciating and necessary release. (And very cool to see TR offering CDs!)

MORDOM was formed in 2018 in San Diego, CA by Max Hoffman (bass, vocals) and Nathan Gonzalez (drums). Though Gonzalez didn’t play on the band’s demo Eternal Solitude (released in 2020 by Transylvanian recordings), Hoffman sought him out specifically to help write and play drums on the band’s new album CRY OF THE DYING WORLD. Together, the pair reworked the band’s sound, dropping guitars entirely and blending Finnish death/doom influences with sludge, crust punk, and post rock. Above all, the pair seeks to create metal that is simultaneously bleak, punishing, and emotionally moving, expressing living in a world being torn apart by hatred, greed, and climate change.

An outstanding Extreme doom death album, in the best tradition. The funerary atmosphere reminds of Evoken ('Centuries of ooze" bears striking similarities, for my delight).
